Experience
I grew up in New York and have always had an interest in reading, which has helped to shape and strengthen my understanding of grammar. I began tutoring during middle school where I helped student (ages 5-10) whose primary language was not English. I continued to tutor throughout middle school and into high school where I would help students that had developmental and behavioral challenges. This required that I possess an understanding of various subjects and levels so that I could cater to the specific needs of the students (ages 9-13). In high school I tutored at the AP level for my peers in subjects such as English, Spanish, Government, Psychology, and Biology. I also assisted students (ages 15-17) in PSAT/SAT preparation and I was a recommended peer tutor. This experience has helped me develop a tutoring style that tailors to the needs and interests of the individual. I feel that it is my job to help engage the student with the material and develop the drive to complete the work. I have earned a bachelor's degree in Comparative Politics, as well as certificates in Near Eastern Studies & Arabic Language/Culture. I have been on several trips overseas to conduct research and study language immersion. I have participated in language exchanges in Mexico and Egypt. I was a Spanish and Arabic tutor at Princeton University (where I graduated in 2011), so I have a great deal of experience in tutoring foreign languages. I feel very strongly that success in academics can provide opportunities for personal growth and development of high self-esteem. Foreign Languages can be extremely rewarding to learn at any age. I particularly love helping students with college applications, admissions essays, and SAT preparation, but I enjoy teaching reading, writing, English, and literature too. I am eager to tutor (or just chat!) in Arabic or Spanish at any level.
